Why You Need My Pad Adjuster On Your Gun

Another important piece of equipment that can be added to your shotgun to aid in proper gun fit is a pad adjuster. The pad adjuster is installed on the butt of the shotgun between the stock and the pad and allows you to move the recoil pad in many different directions.

Use of the pad adjuster allows you to drastically change the dimension of the drop at the heel of your stock. It will allow you to cant the pad and give you the proper amount of toe-out to keep you from canting the gun barrels themselves. Ultimately, it will allow you to adjust the gun so that you can shoot with your head in a more upright position, which is the preferred manner.

The primary use of the pad adjuster is two-fold:
  • proper gun fit and mount
  • sheer comfort
There are several different models of pad adjusters available. Some require the removal of the recoil pad to perform the adjustments, which are less desirable than the ones that are adjustable with the pad left in place.

Lady shooters almost universally benefit from the addition of a pad adjuster to their gun. Differences in gun fit between lady shooters and men shooters that some people are not aware of include the fact that it's a longer distance between a woman's shoulder pocket to her cheekbone than it is on a man of the same stature. Also, where the gun fits, a woman's shoulder pocket is narrower and at more of an angle than the shoulder pocket on a man. By having the pad adjuster on the back of the gun, we're able to drop the pad, which raises the whole gun up, and straightens the neck of the shooter when they mount the gun. We can also toe the pad out and angle it so that it fits more snugly into the shoulder pocket and thus keeps the shooter from twisting the gun in an effort to get it in a comfortable position to shoot.

The pad adjuster that is used at Speedbump Stockworks is of our own design. It is manufactured out of two 3/16" thick 6061-T651 aluminum plates. The plates have a piece of non-skid material that is placed in between them at the time of installation to aid in final positioning of the pad. It also helps to keep it from slipping from it's desired location.

Our pad adjuster, unlike some, provides direct right and left cast adjustments as well as up and down drop adjustments. It also has a full 360 degree rotation capability for cant location.

Another somewhat unique feature here at Speedbump Stockworks is that our pad adjuster, like all of our aluminum butt accessories, can be powder-coated in a wide range of colors to suit your needs.

YOU NEED IT.....WE'VE GOT IT!
